Not that Raids were bad, just, they’re too much a pain to jump into since there’s no matchmaking and they take too long to do. So you’ve listened to your players and made changes. That’s really a theme with House of Wolves and I’m really glad to see it.
I’ve also been looking at the forums, and most people seem to be playing it without much critical comment. Maybe expectations have been so lowered or people are just welcoming the new changes – but I’m yet to get a sense of what people really think. So, what’s the verdict thus far?

Gameplay[ edit ] Destiny gameplay Destiny’s style has been described as a first-person shooter that incorporates role-playing and MMO elements, but Bungie has avoided describing Destiny as a traditional MMO game. For instance, rather than players being able to communicate with all other players in the game or on a particular server — as is the case in many conventional MMO games — Destiny includes on-the-fly matchmaking that allows players to communicate only with other players with whom they are “matched” by the game.
To communicate with other players in the game world, players must use their respective console’s messaging system. A social space on Mercury was added with the House of Wolves expansion, but requires players to go undefeated in the Trials of Osiris Crucible mode in order to access it. Character progression and classes[ edit ] Players are able to improve their characters, referred to as Guardians, by gaining experience points EXP — when a set number of experience points are accumulated, the player’s character will “level up” and gain improved statistics which further enhance performance in battle.
Quests , including the “main scenario” quest line, are specific tasks given to the player by non-player characters which reward items and EXP.
Jun 08, · Destiny – House of Wolves Review So everyone who enjoys a bit of destiny will of known that at the end of May the second expansion in the epic MMO was released. I know, I know I’m a bit late but I wanted to make sure I had given it enough playing time to review.
Ps3, Xbox , Xbox One Developer: Activision The House of Wolves is the second expansion pack for hit game, Destiny. After a lukewarm response to the first expansion pack The Dark Below Bungie and Activision have a bit riding on this. They decided to change things up by adding a few new game modes, a new place to explore called the Reef, and various new weapons. The story for The House of Wolves is short and are in the form of boutnies, just like the Dark Below. The Reef is like the last city, the hub for the game.
This is where you access DLC specific items such as bounties and vendors. The Reef is smaller than the hub on Earth, but it is more lively. Fans of the game who purchased the DLC are sure to want to come back to this hub more than Earth. The Reef is just a nice little extra for players though it might be annoying that players will have the check both places to get all the bounties and items in the game, compared to going to one place.
Bungie decided to opt out of having a Raid in the expansion which fans might not like. Though, there is a new Strike which is possibly one of the most difficult ones in the game to date. Trying the nightfall version of the new strike is just plain insane and is a challenge of itself. Besides the new Strike, players will definitely want to check out the Prison of Elders, a wave based game mode.
Destiny: House of Wolves Preview
However, with the release of House of Wolves, the second expansion pack, Guardians have received an overabundance of new content, and some well needed updates. As a longtime fan of Destiny, I was overjoyed with the amount of content presented to me in House of Wolves, as well as what it establishes for the future of the game. Diversity for All One of the many gripes players had with Dark Below was how, to reach the maximum level cap, players would have to look the same based on their classes.
What that means is that all level 32 Hunters looked the same, as it was with the Titans and Warlocks. This lack of diversity meant that every character was more or less getting the same perks and stat lines.
I looked forward to “House of Wolves” for “Destiny” ever since well, since the first attempt fell completely flat. “The Dark Below” fell way below expectations when it gave only a.
Not bad for a game that was often maligned for not having enough content. That obsession disappeared with The Dark Below. The expansion compounded the original game’s problems by making the base game’s hard-won gear obsolete. This knowledge was enough for me to excuse myself from those months of daily play and wait for the promised second half of the game’s first season of extra content.
That second update, House of Wolves, is here, and it carries the unenviable baggage of needing to expand on the game proper while also fixing the problems its predecessor introduced. Remix culture The first major indicator that Bungie had this in mind is The Reef. Seen only in cutscenes during Destiny’s base game, The Reef is now a new social hub akin to the previously accessible Tower.
It also has most of the amenities of The Tower—bank terminals, a bounty officer, and a new Cryptarch—plus a few new NPCs used in the fresh content and story missions. You may recognize the areas these missions take you to, but House of Wolves reframes most of them in some interesting ways. Oracles with some added story context.
There’s also one new strike, The Shadow Thief. Once you’ve cleared those more pedestrian quests and received the first of the game’s new “Sidearm” special weapons class a semi-automatic handgun with elemental damage , it’s time to head back to The Reef for House of Wolves’ main attractions. The Prison of Elders comes with two very important distinctions from all the other modes in Destiny’s gamut of time sinks.

Many people love the game and continue to play it regularly, while others gave it a try and moved on. Seeing the split of people who have varying views is pretty telling. Bungie, and publisher Activision, promised an FPS like no other, and when released in September the reviews and opinions of this effort were all over the map. Regardless, the game sold well and was a hit.

Bit of a gamer post today On the 19th May – Destiny released their second expansion titled ‘House of Wolves’. If you’ve played Destiny then you will know that in the initial game we faced the Vex, the Dark Below introduced the Hive and so the House of Wolves introduced the Fallen. I’ll keep this brief – so if you recall back when we were doing the Mars missions and searching for the Black Garden you had to visit the Queen in the Reef and you should remember that she had Fallen guarding her.
So the story goes that the Fallen – specifically Skolas revolted and started an uprising. Several of the Queens people were killed and the Fallen flee the Reef.

House of Wolves opens with an invitation to the Guardians of Earth granting them passage into the Reef, home of the Awoken. The Vestian Outpost is a new social area and serves as the hub of all House of Wolves activities, from bounty collection to a new, still-irritating, Cryptarch.
After gearing up in the Reef, a set of required missions sends you through a story of the Fallen House of Wolves and their efforts to rebel against the Queen. Your guides are Petra Venj say it out loud and Variks the Loyal, two Awoken allies that have longstanding history in the Reef. Here are two characters that are well scripted and offer clear explanation of the events surrounding the House of Wolves.
Like The Dark Below, House of Wolves makes liberal use of previously charted areas of our solar system. This is not a bad thing. Bungie makes excellent use of the Vault of Glass in one particular story mission and seeing that space in a new context was a fun experience. Here, you explore the Moon hunting for a Wolf leader until being challenged by the boss himself, who teleports you onto his ship for the remainder of the strike. Prison of Elders features four difficulty levels ranging from 28 to Players are at an immediate disadvantage in these encounters not because of lack of skill—but because they automatically deal less damage because they are under leveled.
Each Prison of Elders round pits players against four waves of a given enemy type before a final boss fight.
